New York Times Article by Thomas Friedman: Pass the Books. Hold the Oil

Mr. Freidman is largely correct in this equation. But invested in what kind of education?

It's not about mastering knowledge; it's about leveraging it and innovating; it's about rising above the culture that often traps our kids. In the US, it means we will have to move out of the learning factory into idea gardens or learning habitats in which the values of relationships and productive thinking are fostered for later harvest.

How do you make that shift? We need to view children as our most valuable natural resource. We need to deal with the elephant sitting in our classrooms--the factory culture. We need to reframe and reclaim our learning culture based on principles that can propel and guide us forward.
