Being a play worker for some 16 years in special needs schools and then venturing into hospital as a hospital play specialist was a little daunting, seeing very sick kids and some who never get better was quite a challenge for me. Losing my father to Leukaemia has given me the strength and drive to continue in my plight and being a "clown doctor" seems to be my vocation!

Finding this site was a fabulous intervention as I was able for the first time get to know a little boy through his illness of "scalded skin syndrome" which was at the time very painful and no fun to a small boy who was usually very active.

Hence, using puppetry!!! Shocked

I have used puppetry with a little boy who was reluctant to talk to me and was afraid of what I might do to him! I gained his trust first as I am a hosptial play specialist and we made a Pirate puppet as he loves pirates!!!!!! It was so good he actually laughed with me and we made unique communication . Trouble was I didn't have a camera so I can't post a picky for you to see... we also made a frog for another little boy-- they are fabulous....
Cool

A little boy wanted to make a puppet so we made a puppet of scooby doo he drew his own dog face and i made the hinge.it worked very well and made him feel a lot better, hence he was allowed to go home later that day. He had been in bed for 3 days then was allowed to visit the play room where i set out activities one being puppet making. He then went on to make a bob the builder puppet, drawing his owen bob and me helping with the hinge he was very proud of his work.... Razz Shocked Very Happy
